Markets, Viruses and YOU

March 10, 2020 - Obviously, the recent market volatility (mostly) due to the concern and uncertainty associated with the coronavirus continues. Over the past few weeks we have been sending articles and information that attempt to put this into context. I won't reiterate the content of these here (although I will encourage you to re-read them), but I will take this opportunity to more specifically address the effects market declines like these can have on your financial planning.

Commentary on Volatility

Click here for an interesting article from one of the Partners at Lord Abbett ("Volatility: Why This is Not the End of Days") provides some useful analysis into the strength of U.S. economic fundamentals and points to the absence of some of the primary stressors that would be expected if a recession were imminent. This is a quick read and valuable for all investors, especially if you're feeling a little nervous. Please don't hesitate to contact your advisor with any questions.

Now and Then – Perspectives on Investing from the Producer of The Big Bang Theory

Click here for a great piece by Dave Goetsch, Executive Producer of the hit TV series, The Big Bang Theory. He reflects on his investment experience in the recent market downturn and contrasts his new perspective with memories of the 2008-2009 financial crisis. This is a great, quick read that underscores much of our wealth management philosophy - highly recommended!

Lessons for the Next Crisis

As your advisor, our role is to help you navigate through events you control (your retirement, house purchase, college planning) and those you can't control (market volatility, geopolitical issues) toward your long term goals.  Continuing on our recent theme of preparation for potentially increased market volatility, we think the attached article from DFA does a great job of reviewing lessons from the global financial crisis a decade ago.  Their opinions are very much in line with our investment philosophy (one of many reasons we are very pleased to be able to offer privileged access to DFA's strategies). It's a quick read and we think well worth it.  Click here for the article.
